TikTok Shop for Perfume Brands in the UK: What Actually Works

Perfume is one of the hardest products to sell online. Customers can’t smell it through a screen, the market is crowded with big names, and on TikTok Shop there’s an extra trap that catches many small fragrance brands out.

We’ve helped two UK fragrance brands grow their online sales by around 50% using a mix of better landing pages, SEO, TikTok Shop and paid ads. This guide shares what we learned, including the mistakes that can get your listings taken down.

What we did for two UK fragrance brands

Both brands came to us with a similar problem. They had good products, but their websites weren’t built to sell. The pages looked dated, didn’t explain the scents well and gave visitors no clear reason to buy.

Here’s what we changed:

  1. Rebuilt the sales pages. We designed new product landing pages focused on one job: turning visitors into buyers. Clear scent descriptions, strong images, trust signals and a simple path to checkout.
  2. Added SEO-optimised content. We wrote product and category content that helps the pages rank on Google, so the brands could win sales from search, not just from ads.
  3. Set up TikTok Shop. We set up each brand’s shop and product listings so customers could buy straight from TikTok videos.
  4. Ran Facebook and Instagram ads. With stronger landing pages in place, paid ads had somewhere worth sending people.

The result was around a 50% increase in sales. No single channel did it alone. The growth came from each piece supporting the others.

The biggest TikTok Shop mistake perfume brands make

If you sell perfume on TikTok Shop, this is the part to read carefully.

Many smaller fragrance brands describe their products by comparing them to famous designer perfumes. Listing titles like “inspired by [famous brand]” or “smells like [designer scent]” are common, because they help shoppers understand the scent quickly.

The problem is that big perfume houses actively protect their brand names. Using their names in your listings, product titles, descriptions or videos can lead to intellectual property complaints. On TikTok Shop, that can mean listings removed, sales lost overnight and, if it keeps happening, risk to your whole seller account.

What to do instead:

  • Describe the scent, not someone else’s brand. Talk about the notes (citrus, oud, vanilla, musk), the mood and when to wear it.
  • Build your own product names. A memorable name is easier to protect and helps customers ask for your perfume by name.
  • Check every listing before it goes live. Titles, descriptions, images, hashtags and video captions all count.

Getting this right takes more care at the start, but it’s far cheaper than rebuilding your shop after a wave of takedowns.

Why TikTok Shop alone isn’t enough

TikTok Shop can bring fast sales, but relying on one platform is risky. Algorithms change, listings get flagged and ad costs rise.

That’s why we always pair TikTok Shop with a strong website:

  • SEO landing pages keep selling when you stop paying. Paid ads stop the day your budget does. A page that ranks on Google can bring in customers month after month.
  • Your website is yours. You control the design, the customer data and the relationship.
  • Ads perform better with better pages. When we ran Facebook ads for the fragrance brands, the improved landing pages meant more of those clicks turned into orders.

The sample trick that brings customers back

This is one of our favourite tips for new perfume brands, and it costs very little.

When a customer makes their first purchase, include two or three free 3–4ml samples of your other scents.

Here’s why it works:

  • The customer gets to try more of your range without any risk.
  • If they fall in love with one of the samples, they come back to buy the full bottle.
  • A thoughtful free extra makes the order feel special, which helps with reviews and word of mouth.

For a perfume brand, a repeat customer is worth far more than a one-off sale. Samples are a small cost that turns first-time buyers into regulars.

A quick checklist for new perfume brands

  • Set up your TikTok Shop with listings that describe your scents in your own words, with no designer brand names.
  • Build SEO-optimised landing pages on your own website so you get organic sales, not just paid ones.
  • Run ads only once your pages are ready to convert.
  • Add free samples to first orders to encourage repeat purchases.
  • Track your results so you know which channel is really driving sales.

Frequently asked questions

Can you sell perfume on TikTok Shop in the UK?

Yes. Fragrance brands can sell on TikTok Shop UK once their seller account is approved. Your listings must follow TikTok’s product and intellectual property rules.

Can I say my perfume is “inspired by” a designer fragrance?

It’s risky. Using another brand’s name in your listings or videos can lead to IP complaints and listing removals. It’s safer to describe the scent notes and build your own brand names.

Do I need a website if I already sell on TikTok Shop?

We strongly recommend one. A website with SEO-optimised landing pages gives you sales you don’t pay for per click, and protects you if anything changes on TikTok.

How can a small perfume brand get repeat customers?

Include free samples of your other scents with first orders, and follow up with customers after their purchase. Many will come back for a full bottle of the scent they liked most.
